Why. Every fixture, every cable drum, every iron, every ladder is "plant" under WHS. Plant that fails an audit is plant that's unrecorded — not plant that's broken. The register is the school's evidence of due diligence. Walk it term-by-term: an hour with a clipboard saves a fortnight of paperwork when WorkSafe asks. How to keep the register useful

Walk it term 1 of each year. One hour, clipboard, every item physically sighted. Pre-fill from last year's register, mark anomalies.
Update at each AS/NZS 3760 test cycle. A-grade electrician does the test, signs the column, you transcribe the dates.
Auto-flag at term-start: filter rows where "next due" is within 60 days — schedule the test. (Easy in spreadsheet with conditional formatting.)
Tag a row RED if out-of-test and block the item from use until re-tested. Don't trust verbal "she'll be right".
Cross-reference with the production approval pack — every item used on a production must be in this register, currently tagged.
